Falcon Defense Dominates Second Half

Leads to Round One Playoff Victory

The Port Allegany Gators gave the Falcons all they could handle in the first half of Friday nights District 9 Round one playoff game. But the second half was a different story. The Falcon Defense led by Senior linebacker Adam Foust dominated the second half of play.

With the Gators building a 15-0 halftime lead, the Falcon offense took the opening posession of the second half and marched 65 yards that ended with Dirk Cowburn powering in from 4 yards out for the Falcons first score of the night. Brian "Boomer" Wetzel found a wide open Colton Corey for the conversion and the Falcons had cut it to a 7 point game.

The Gator's ensuing drive they were force to punt deep in their own territory. A high snap to punter Cameron Stuckey allowed Senior Brian Smith to block Stuckey's punt. The Falcons took over at the Gator 14 yard line. They were unable to score though and turned the ball over on downs.

The gators took over at their own 8 yard line but were forced to punt it away. The Falcons would get the ball at Port's 47 yard line and cover the distance in 3 plays that was capped off by a 28 yard touchdown run by Cowburn. The conversion try failed but the Falcons were now down just one point.

The Falcon Defense which allowed only 26 total yards in the second half forced another punt. The Falcons started the fourth quarter on their own 46 yard line and down 15-14. From there they marched to the 10 yard line where drive finally stalled out and on came the field goal team. With a burst through the line a host of Gators were in position to block the field goal but it was Port's Derick Morey that got a hand on the ball.

On Port's first play from scrimmage following the blocked punt, they fumbled it and the Falcons recovered at the Port 37 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage for the Falcons, Senior quarterback Brian Wetzel launched a throw into the endzone intended for Brett Whitman. Instead a Port player stepped in front of Whitman and intercepted the ball in the endzone.

Just 3 plays after the interception, the Falcons forced another fumble and recovered it at the Gator 4 yard line. From there Colton Corey ran it in from 4 yards out to put Coudersport on top for the first time of the night. Wetzel found Justen Kinder for the 2 point conversion and the Falcons took a 22-15 lead.

Colton Corey would add one more touchdown with just 1:04 left in the game and seal the final score at 28-15. The Falcons will now travel to Kane next Friday for a rematch of week 9 where Kane took a 39-7 victory. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
