Falcons Win Streak Ends
First quarter miscues and a 40 minute lightning delay along with a torrential downpour during halftime made for a long night for the Falcons Friday.
The visiting Cameron County Red Raiders were able to escape with a 28-16 win and break the Falcons regular season winning streak that dates back to week 3 of 2002.
Missed opportunities early in the contest were the Achilles heel for the Falcons. Over thrown and dropped passes plagued the team all night. The Falcons, traditionally a running team, put in a game plan to spread out the field and use their skill players. The Falcons attempted what is believed to be a team record 51 passes.
With the Falcons throwing so many passes, many of them incomplete, the game dragged on as the clock stopped on each incompletion. That, along with the halftime delay, any faithful fans that remained to the end were there until around 10:15 PM.
The Falcons have to bounce back from this tough loss by facing another tough challenge this week. They travel to St. Mary's Saturday night to face very good Elk County Catholic (2-1) team who always play the Falcons tough
The season's far from over for the Falcons though. If they can win out the rest of their regular season, they'll enter the playoffs for the seventh straight year and have a chance to avenge this loss against the Red Raiders.
