Falcons Bounce Back

Give Coach Simcoe 199th Victory

After a disappointing loss to Cameron County last week, the Falcons got back on track with a 33-6 victory Saturday night over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders. The victory brings Coach Simcoe just one away from his 200th career win. With his next win, he will be the first known District 9 coach to reach this milestone.

On offense, the Falcons were led by Senior Quarterback Brian Wetzel who completed 11 out of 14 pass attempts with 3 touchdowns and 134 yards. Junior Eric Babcock who split some time with Wetzel completed 3 of 6 pass attempts for 38 yards. Brett Whitman led the receiving core with 5 catches for 64 yards including a 36 yard touchdown. The other five receivers who hauled in passes were Justen Kinder (2 for 45 yards and a 31 yard touchdown), Colton Corey (2 for 29 yards), Derek Burdick (2 for 15 yards), Kyle Gee (2 for 15 yards) and Ty Carts (1 catch, a 4 yard touchdown).

The Falcons rushing attack was led by Senior Kyle Gee who had 11 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown and Dirk Cowburn 8 totes for 20 yards and a touchdown.

On the Defensive side of the ball, the Falcons were facing one of the top running backs in the district, Eric Mastrogiacomo. Going into the contest he was the second leading rusher in the district averaging about 140 yards a game. The Falcon defense was up to the task holding him to just 85 yards rushing on the night.

Leading the defensive charge was sophomore linebacker Dirk Cowburn who tallied 10 assisted and 4 solo tackles as well as 1 sack. The Falcons also picked off 4 passes on the night including one by senior Derek Burdick who returned the ball to the ECC 15 yard line setting up the Falcon's final touchdown on the night. The other 3 interceptions were by Adam Foust, Justen Kinder and Wes Bernard.

The Falcons will be in action again next Saturday at Port Allegany with a 1:30 PM kick off time.
