Give Coach Simcoe 200th Victory
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Port Allegany, the Falcons fell behind 7-0 as the Gators took the opening kickoff down the field and scored on quarterback Derick Morey's 2 yard QB Sneak.
But on this day, with their head coach on the brink of his 200th career victory, the Falcons would not be denied. With another efficient passing attack, Senior QB Brian Wetzel would complete 72 percent of his passes for 195 yards with Touchdown passes of 24, 5 and 50 yards. Early in the second quarter Brett Whitman hauled in the first touchdown pass across the middle and sprinted into the endzone. With the Cooper Bonczar kick the Falcons had tied it up at 7 apiece.
With the Falcons struggling again to run the football with any consistency, they continued to air it out. Midway through the second quarter the Falcons were able to mount a 46 yard drive that ended with Wetzel again finding Whitman, this time for a 5 yard touchdown pass. Bonczar's second PAT of the day gave the Falcons a 14-7 lead at the half.
Following the Port Allegany Homecoming Halftime festivities, the Falcons got the ball first and drove down the field from their own 36 yard line only to have the drive stall out at the Gator 9 yard line. The Falcons got the ball back at the Gator 49 yard line and it only took 1 play for Wetzel to find Dirk Cowburn for a 49 yard touchdown to extend the lead. Bonczar's kick made it 21-7 at the 5:58 mark of the third quarter.
The final score for the Falcons came late in the fourth quarter on a 45 yard pass from Justen Kinder to Cowburn. Bonczar's 4th PAT on the afternoon was true and the Falcons walked away with a 28-7 win.
Next Friday night at CARP is the Falcon's Homecoming game. Visiting Sheffield (1-4) will come in and try to spoil the festivities as they come off their first win of the season last week over Smethport. Kick off is set for 7:00 PM.
