The Falcons improved to 6-1 on the year with a 35-6 victory over the Johnsonburg Rams Friday night in Johnsonburg. Offensively the Falcons had a very balanced attack with 188 yards rushing and 181 yards passing on the night. Defensively they allowed only 1 touchdown on a short field following a tipped interception by Johnsonburg.
Senior quarterback Boomer Wetzel had another efficient game completing 11 of his 17 pass attempts for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns with the 1 interception. Wetzel spread the ball around to 4 different receivers. Leading the way was Brett Whitman who hauled in 3 passes for 74 yards including a 58 yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Other players catching passes were Kyle Gee (4 for 49 yards), Colton Corey (3 for 35 yards) and Derek Burdick 1 reception for a 23 yard touchdown.
The rushing leader was Dirk Cowburn who had 9 carries for 74 yards. Kyle Gee had only 5 carries but had 2 touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards on the night. Colton Corey also toted the ball 5 times for 42 yards. And for the second week in a row, Nick Reddick got some quality carries as he added 11 runs totaling 45 yards.
Defensively the Falcons were led by Zach Buckler and Michael Dunn. Buckler had 10 tackles and 1 pass deflection while Dunn added 9 tackles and 2 quarterback hurries. Senior safety Colton Corey got his second interception of the year for the Falcons lone takeaway on the night.
Next Friday will be Parent’s night as the Falcons have their final regular season home game against the Smethport Hubbers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
