The Falcons took no time at all in taking control of the struggling Smethport Hubbers Friday night. With the Falcon defense holding the Hubbers to a three and out following the opening kickoff, they marched 43 yards in just 4 plays for the first score of the game. Senior quarterback Brian Wetzel threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Senior wingback Derek Burdick.
Following the kickoff, on the first play from the line of scrimmage, the Smethport quarterback was stripped of the football and Dirk Cowburn picked up the loose ball and ran it 11 yards for another touchdown. Bonczar hit his second PAT and Coudersport had a quick 14-0 lead with 7:51 still remaining in the first quarter.
Again the Falcon defense was stout and the Falcons got the ball right back at the Hubber 44 yard line. It took just another 6 plays for Wetzel to find Senior split end Justen Kinder for a 22 yard scoring strike. Again Bonczar's kick was true and with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter, the Falcons were up 21-0.
The Falcon offensive starters would only get 2 more drives before the subs came in. On the first one they marched 59 yards in 8 plays when Senior running back Colton Corey found pay dirt from 2 yards out. On the Falcon's next posession following a fumble recovery at the Hubber 27 yard line, Dirk Cowburn only needed one play to race the 27 yards for the touchdown. Cooper Bonczar's kick appeared to split the uprights however one of the referee's saw it differently. That left the Falcons with a 34-0 lead with 9:12 remaining before halftime.
With 2:42 left in the 2nd quarter, Bonczar hit his 3rd fieldgoal of the year from 25 yards out to extend the lead to 37-0.
Starting the second half the starters saw no time as the Falcons subbed completely down. The younger Falcons would manage one more score when sophomore running back Nick Reddick found the endzone from 5 yards out. Jaymes Wilcox would then run in the two point conversion around the right side to give the Falcons a 45-0 lead.
The Hubbers would put up 13 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 45-13.
The Falcons will close out the regular season next Friday at Kane for an important playoff seeding game. A win could allow the Falcons to get the third seed in the districts, where as a loss will put them in the fourth seed. Even if the Falcons beat Kane, they could still end up only the fourth seed if Kane were to win the AML Title Game over Cameron County. For all the playoff news and seedings, see www.d9sports.com
