The Coudersport Falcons found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard following Friday night's game against their long time rivals, the Curwensville Golden Tide, losing by a score of 28-21.
Curwensville got on the scoreboard first via a 41 yard pass from quarterback David Kalgren to Andrew Starr. The extra point failed, making the score 6-0 Golden Tide. The Falcons answered back with a 67 yard touchdown pass from Eric Babcock to Brett Whitman. The extra point by Cooper Bonczar was good, making the score 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Coudersport scored next with a 4 yard run from running back, Tim Thomas. Bonczar's extra point split the uprights, giving the Falcons a 14-6 lead through most of the second quarter. With under five minutes to go in the half. A Coudy interception led to a 90 yard drive that was topped off with a 10 yard touchdown pass from Kalgren to wide receiver, Jesse Hoover. The extra point failed, with the Falcons clinging to a 2 point lead at half time.
The Golden Tide drew first blood in the second half with quarterback David Kalgren's second touchdown pass of the night to wide receiver Jesse Hoover. The two point conversion was good, making the score 20-14 Golden Tide. The Falcons stormed back and tied it up, thanks to a 4 yard touchdown run from senior, Brett Whitman. Bonczar's third p.a.t. of the night gave the Falcons a one point lead to close out the third quarter.
Curwensville took the lead for good via a 4 yard run by running back, Jed Greslick and added a 2 point conversion to make the score 28-21 Golden Tide. The Falcons mounted a long drive in the closing minutes of the game, but turned it over on an interception, letting Curwensville run out the clock.
The loss moved the Falcons to 2-1 on the year with two key matchups the next two weeks, this week at Ridgway and then at Cameron County in two weeks.
