The Falcons Hold Off The Elkers

By Madison Staiger

Following last weeks loss to the Curwensville Golden Tide, The Coudersport Falcons rebounded nicely Friday night with a 29-8 definitive win over The Ridgeway Elkers. Things started slowly for the visiting Falcons as the Elkers ended the First Quarter on top with a 2-0 score following a safety that gave Ridgeway the early lead. As the Second Quarter began, the Elkers tacked on 6 more points with a short touchdown pass. The extra point failed and Ridgeway lead the game by a score of 8-0. However, that was the end of the scoring for the hometeam Elkers with the Falcons taking control and scoring 29 unanswered points to put the game away. Tim Thomas scored on a one yard run in the Second Quarter and Brett Whitman added the two point conversion to tie the game at 8-8 at the Half.

Whitman hooked up with Thomas for a 21 yard TD pass in the Third Quarter and Cooper Bonczar added the extra point to make the score 15-8. Thomas then grabbed his third touchdown of the night with a 1 yard plunge and Bonczar booted the extra point to give the Falcons a 22-8 after three quarters of play.

In the Fourth, Coudy added their final score of the evening via a 5 yard run from Brett Whitman and Bonczar connected on his third extra point of the evening to finish the quarter and close out the game with a 29-8 victory.

Coudersport was lead Offensively by Senior RB Tim Thomas with his 12 carries for 126 yards rushing, 2 TD's and chipped in with 2 receptions for 26 yards receiving another TD. Brett Whitman also topped the century mark rushing with 11 carries for 101 yards, 1 TD and threw for 87 yards passing and 1 TD on the evening. Defensively, Chris Symans lead all Falcons with 13 tackles.

The Falcons next travel to Emporium this Friday night to take on the undefeated Red Raiders. Cameron County comes into the game 4-0 following a double overtime win over previously unbeaten Curwensville. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
