Red Raiders Reign Over Falcons

By Madison Staiger

The Cameron County Red Raiders were able to hold on to their undefeated season and walk away with a 13-7 win over the visiting Coudersport Falcons Friday evening in Emporium.

The Falcons came out swinging, still fired up from last week's win over Ridgeway. Unfortunately, the Red Raiders were the first ones to get on the scoreboard, thanks to a 58 yard run by fullback Andrew Kesterholt. The extra point from Hunter Bardo was good, making the score 7-0 Cameron County. The Falcons then launched their counterattack on the Raiders when QB Brett Whitman threw to a wide open Tim Thomas for a 44 yard touchdown pass. The extra point from Sophmore Copper Bonczar was good, making the score 7-7 in the second quarter. Then following an interception by Cameron County's Andy Lippert, the Red Raiders quickly answered back with a 34 yard touchdown pass from QB Jason Blose to Lippert to find pay dirt again for the home team. The extra point failed making the score 13-7 as the first half came to a close.

Both Defenses came up big in the second half with the Falcons holding the Red Raiders to a mere 61 yards in total offense. The defensive show continued till mid way into the fourth quarter when the Falcons took over possession and made their way deep into Red Raider territory. With little time left, fourth down and the ball on the 7 yard line, Quarterback Brett Whittman's pass into the endzone fell incomplete, turning the ball over to the Red Raiders where they were able to run out the clock and hold on for their 5 straight win of the 2008 season and control in the AML North.

Coudersport was lead Offensively by Brett Whittman who piled up 175 yards and 1 touchdown on his 11 of 28 completions. Defensively Zach Buckler lead the way for Coudy with 12 tackles. The Falcons next game is Friday, October 3rd in Coudersport when the Smethport Hubbers come to town. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
