Things got pretty emotional at Friday night's match up between the visiting Otto Eldred Terrors and the Coudersport Falcons. No, I'm not talking about the game; I'm talking about the dedicating of the newly updated football field to retired head coach, Paul Simcoe.
Before this year's much anticipated Homecoming game officially got started, the Coudersport Football team was honored to once again share the field with their former head coach, Paul Simcoe. The Coudersport High School Principal, Alana Huck, presented Mr. Simcoe with a plaque certifying that the field will now and forever be recognized in his name. I think we can all agree that this was definitely a well earned honor that will be remembered in Coudersport forever.
Now, getting back to the game, the Falcons quickly scored their first of many touchdowns thanks to a 50 yard interception return by line backer, Zach Buckler. The PAT from kicker, Cooper Bonczar, was good, leaving the home team with a 7-0 lead over the Terrors. Soon after, the Falcons struck again when Eric Babcock threw a short pass to SE, Brett Whitman who broke a tackle and took it the rest of the distance for a 31 yard touchdown. Bonczar's second extra point of the night was again good, making the score 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Still fired up from their triumph in the previous quarter, the Falcons only got better as the second quarter began. Ty Carts was the first to make his move by receiving a 40 yard pass from quarterback, Eric Babcock, who was 4 for 6 in passing for the night. The extra point from Cooper Bonczar failed, but Tim Thomas was there to pick up the slack when he completed a 4 yard run for the next touchdown. Bonczar succeeded in his extra point, making the score 27-0 Falcons at the half
The crowning for Homecoming Queen took place during halftime. The crowd was silent as they waited for the winner to be announced. Congratulations to this year's Homecoming Queen, Tessa Croft.
The third quarter started off well with an outstanding 40 yard touchdown run by Tim Thomas, who led the team with 10 carries for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns for the night. The extra point failed, leaving the Falcons with a 33-0 lead over the Terrors.
During the fourth quarter, the Falcons were able to hold onto their lead and run out the clock, which earned them a 33-0 win.
The Falcons will travel to nearby Port Allegany next Saturday to play the Gators in a 1:30 afternoon game and then host Sheffield the following week for the final regular season game.
